Volunteering Sunshine Coast

Social Enterprise Cafe

Volunteering Sunshine Coast is involved in a collaborative social enterprise café project between Japara Aged Care and The Learning Centre – Sunshine Coast State High School.

Purpose

  • This would be a social enterprise initiative for students with special needs; the service would be designed to support students to develop hospitality, soft and life skills with confidence in a supportive working environment whilst offering a valued service in the heart of the local community
  • Special needs students will have the opportunity to undertake work experience towards attaining their Certificate 2 in Hospitality in a café within a safe, supportive, encouraging learning environment.

Social Impact

  1. The development of creative and flexible employment support models for marginalised and disadvantaged people, through the creation of a social enterprise opportunity for students with special needs to gain valuable work experience in hospitality and work towards completing a Certificate 2 in Hospitality
  2.  It will be a skills-based development enterprise which will provide support for students with special needs to get involved with their local community by doing something they enjoy, whilst learning new skills. These will include life, soft (i.e. social, communication) daily living and independence skills alongside hospitality skills with the prospect of gaining employment within the hospitality field.
