Gardener

Position Description:

A Noosa organisation is looking for a volunteer gardener to maintain garden areas around their library. This role would involve regularly maintaining these areas, including light pruning, weeding, sweeping, tidying, planting, mulching, fertilising, and watering. There will be a 3 month probation period upon commencement.

Requirements: A Blue Card is required. The organisation can assist with the process.

Time Required: 3 to 8 hours per week.

Training: Provided on the job

Activities Assistant

Position Description:

Activities volunteers are needed to work alongside a dedicated Lifestyle team that includes music and visual arts therapists working with residents on creative arts and leisure activities.  These activities can be painting, craft, crossword puzzles, playing poker, jigsaws, newspaper and book reading, sailing or visiting art galleries or museums.

Requirements: Activity Volunteers do not have to have specialised skills or experience, although that is wonderful if you have. The organisation is looking for positive people with sunny dispositions who like to help and are good listeners.

Time Required: Four or five hours per day. Evening and weekend shifts are available.

Training: All volunteers are given induction training that covers their and the residents rights.

Personal Assistant

Position Description:

A Sunshine Coast organisation requires a volunteer to assist with admin and web development. Some of the tasks will include creating spreadsheets and helping to produce a bi-monthly newsletter utilising Microsoft Office programs. While a new premises is being secured, the successful applicant will have the convenience of working from home with close communication with Committee members. You may also get the opportunity to get involved in other activities depending on your skills and experience including grants research and/or writing, introducing the organisation to other service providers on the Sunshine Coast, attending forums & workshops and when an office premises is acquired, general office duties.

Requirements: You will need a computer with the required programs. Understanding of Microsoft Office and document design

Time Required: Ten hours per week.

Literacy and Numeracy Tutors

Position Description:

A Maroochydore organisation delivering Government programs that provide skills and qualification for employment is looking for a volunteer to sit with individual students to support their learning. Some of these students have dyslexia, autism, ADHD or other learning disabilities.

Requirements:

  • A Blue Card is required (we can assist with the application)
  • Friendly, patient and easy-going
  • Good English and numeracy skills

Training: Trained on the job by teacher

Time Required: 9 am to 12:30 pm – 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm, 3.5 or 5 hours per day Monday to Thursday, 1-4 days per week

Administration Officer

Position Description:

An Admin officer is required to fulfill the following duties:

  • Provide administrative and receptionist services to nominated managers, including the preparation of documents and spreadsheets
  • Provide a professional reception and general office service by answering telephone and email enquiries from staff, volunteers and the general public
  • Provide general administrative support including preparation and distribution of daily mail/emails, room bookings, loans of equipment, meeting organisation and documentation, filing, and assisting with the orientation of new staff
  • Assist in the management of facilities, space, and daily operations of the office, including ordering supplies and consumables
  • Assist with organising health/volunteer events
  • Liaise with the Management team in relation to minor purchases, receipting, invoices, reimbursements and record keeping
  • Assist with the collation of data and information and ensure that records are kept in accordance with the Privacy Act & Policy and ensure confidentiality as appropriate
  • Contribute to the organisation’s service & ethos by showing initiative and being your own positive energy leader within the team
  • Comply with health and safety policies, procedures, hazard reporting and safe work practices

Requirements:

  • Education, training and/or relevant experience equivalent to completion of an associate diploma in conjunction with relevant experience
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, communication and client service skills including experience in liaising with a wide and diverse range of clients as the first point of contact
  • Demonstrated high level attention to detail in data entry, document handling, and filing
  • Demonstrated general organisational skills including the ability to manage time and high volume tasks efficiently and meet tight deadlines within the context of competing demands
  • Demonstrated written communication skills, including the ability to draft and edit routine correspondence such as letters and emails with a high degree of accuracy
  • Demonstrated digital literacy skills including intermediate-level skills in Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, email and internet

Training: Volunteer Induction and orientation

Time Required: 6 hours per day Monday to Friday, 9.00 am to 3.00 pm (1 volunteer or 2 volunteers to share role)

Admin Support

Position Description:

Assist with basic admin duties including answering the phone, filing and data entry, managing front reception and document handling.

Requirements:

  • Background and experience in admin (preferred)
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Good people skills

Training: Basic on the job instruction provided

Time Required: 2-3 days per week. Negotiable hours but would be required to start at 9.00 am

Activities Volunteer

Position Description:

A volunteer is required to run male oriented activities for their male clients. The volunteer will be supported in this role, given direction on what to do, and how to run the activity. The activities include movie afternoons, remote control cars, race car tracks, table tennis, pool table and virtual reality glasses.

Requirements: A police check that the organisation will organise and pay for

Training: Training in dementia given

Time Required: This is a weekly activity. Hours are negotiable. Mornings are preferred.

Personal Carer

A volunteer is needed to provide direct personal care duties for the organisation’s guests. This includes manual handling, showering, assisting with toileting, and other tasks as directed by the Registered Nurses. You will also attend to the hospitality at the hospice, greeting guests and family members, offering a companion role to our guests, providing food, maintaining the environment and cleaning/housekeeping tasks. Companionship might include reading, watching movies, reminiscing, going out in the garden or being a silent presence. You must be flexible within the requirements of this role and offer a relationship of curiosity, sensitivity and comfort.

Requirements: relevant qualifications including Certificate 3 or similar. Previous experience in caring for ill people or palliative care is vital and a kind and compassionate approach is necessary.

Training: Training and ongoing support is provided

Time Required: One or two five-hour shifts per week
