General Maintenance Volunteer (Position ID: 130329)

This organisation is seeking volunteers at their patient accommodation facility in Nambour.  This organisation is the provider of a house with a 20 bedroom accommodation facility that accommodates patients and their families and carers who are accessing the Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Services. The facility is managed by this organisation, however the day to day running of the facility is conducted a wonderful team of volunteers. They  currently seek a handyperson to help us keep the facility in good condition.

  • Your position description should you be a successful applicant will include general and light maintenance duties such as:
  • Fixing and repairing furniture.
  • Replacing light globes.
  • Repairing hand rails in bedrooms.
  • Minor electrical repairs (if qualified.)
  • Fixing shelving etc.
  • Repairs to screen doors and flyscreens.
  • High pressure cleaning of outside area and playground.
  • Unblocking of drains.

Requirements: While no qualifications are required specifically for the general duties, if you are undertaking any electrical, plumbing or structural works you will need specific qualifications and tickets to conduct your work. You will also be required to either have or acquire a Blue Card and a National Police Check. However, these can be arranged by the organisation.

Reimbursement: Tea/coffee/morning tea
Transport: Own transport required.

Arts Space Assistant Curator and General Administration

Description: As arts space assistant curator you would help assist artists who are holding exhibitions in the planning of their exhibitions, promotion, setup and take down of their work.

Requirements: Ideally the volunteer will have good computer and communication skills and have a good knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel Spreadsheets – some training may be possible in these areas. An arts background or interest in art and cultural heritage would be helpful to be able to curate exhibitions in the arts space. Having skills in photography, Adobe Illustrator, Creative Suite and Photoshop or similar software would be of great benefit in this position but are not essential.

Commitment: Regular – less than 6 months
Time Required: Fridays 10 am to 3 pm with the possibility of more hours
Training: Some training will be available
Transport: Public transport is limited to Eumundi so having a vehicle would be preferred

Hospitality Volunteers (Yandina)

Description: A historical house in Yandina is managed by the members of a historical society. All of the members are volunteers.
They require volunteers to greet and serve light refreshments to the many visitors who come to the house. If you are mature, have a sense of humour, great people skills and prepared to do whatever is required, you’re the person this organisation is looking for.


Volunteers will be working in an air conditioned environment. We prefer mature volunteers, who can be relied on to open the house and prepare for the day to serve tea/coffee and light refreshments to visitors. They will be telling Yandina stories and cleaning up afterwards. People skills are essential because of the regular contact with visitors and the local community.
You will also be required to do minimal paperwork, head count and recording. Training and induction will be provided.

Commitment:

  • Regular -Regular – more than 6 months
  • 9am-3pm (Yandina Historic House is open from 9;30am to 2;20pm) Monday to Sunday (7
    days per week, excluding public holidays).

World Environment Day Festival Coordinator

Description: World Environment Day Festival is held at Cotton Tree Park, Maroochydore. It aims to promote a greater awareness of the environment, and the current environmental challenges, to the general population. It also aims to increase sound environmental practices in the community and a greater engagement with local environmental groups and issues. The Equipment Coordinator will play a key role in booking and hiring equipment for the festival including,
sound and lighting, bar and marquees.

The Sunshine Coast Environment Council is the peak environmental advocacy organisation on the Sunshine Coast, and has been protecting the Sunshine Coast environment for 40 years. We have
organised the WED Festival since its inception. We advocate for better environmental policy, support local groups on campaigns to protect our natural landscape and marine environments, and encourage action on climate change through education and community engagement. With over 50 member groups, we strive to
make a real difference on the Sunshine Coast.


Requirements:

  • Ideally this voluntary role will be based in  Nambour for half a day per week from the 1st of February to the 5th of June 2019. However, this is flexible if need be.
  • To manage the required World Environment Day equipment.
  • Order and arrange delivery of cold room for the Jetty Bar.
  • Order and arrange delivery of light towers.
  • Order and arrange delivery of portaloos.
  • Order and arrange delivery of red carpet for the Fashion Parade.
  • Order and arrange delivery of any marquees required by community groups.
  • Order and arrange delivery of equipment required by community groups.
  • Order and arrange delivery of Festival main stage.
  • Order and arrange delivery of Festival waste management requirements.
  • Order and arrange delivery of required site equipment, including radios, generators and trailers.
  • Requirements: Some driving will be required to pick up equipment.

Commitment:

  • Regular – less than 6 months (Start Date: 05/02/2019 End Date: 02/06/2019)
  • Full Day on June 2nd for WED Festival delivery.
