Resource Assistant

Position Description:

Do you have an interest in the types of programs and services that are offered around the Nambour area? We are looking for someone to assist in maintaining the centre’s digital and physical resources. In plain English this means keeping our brochures/flyers up to date for community members looking for assistance, support and direction.

  • Directed and working in collaboration with the Administration Manager
  • Assisting with the management of NCC resources
  • Research and sourcing resources via internet, direct with providers or suppliers
  • Communicating via phone, email and in person
  • Liaising with providers of services, government departments, staff and volunteers
  • Printing, scanning and recording resources
  • Updating, monitoring and ongoing development of the online resources
  • Maintaining the presentation and supply of resources in the centre for customers
  • Maintaining excess stock of resources not on display

Requirements: A Blue Card is not a requirement for this position however we are able to support the volunteer in applying for one if they choose to.

Duration: Long Term

Availability: Minimum of 4hrs Monday – Friday

Computer Assistant

Position Description: The organisation is looking for someone who would like to share their IT knowledge to assist others in furthering their computer skills and help out around the centre with basic IT situations.  As a Computer Assistant you would assist community members (over 50 yrs) in a small group setting (2-4 people) starting on 14 November, for a short free course called “Internet Savvy Seniors”. The computer room has just been upgraded so it’s a pleasurable work space.  The centre asks that if successful you are willing to volunteer for at least 6 hrs one day a week. The course is currently running on a Thursday however this can be altered to suit if need be.

Requirements: A Blue Card is not a requirement for this position however we are able to support the volunteer in applying for one if they choose to.

Duration: Long Term

Availability: Willing to volunteer for at least 6 hrs one day a week.

Administration Assistant

Position Description:  A small office team ranging from part-time to full-time are looking for someone to join the friendly team. The position would consist of administration and organising tasks taking up roughly 15hr per week.

The position is an administration position and daily tasks will include things such as:

  • Collecting the post
  • Digital filing
  • Emails
  • Corresponding
  • Customer service
  • Shredding documents
  • Scanning
  • Answering phone calls
  • Market Days
  • Customer information

Requirements: Intermediate computer skills, Microsoft skills, Literacy skills

Duration: Long Term

Training: On the job training. A staff member will explain your role responsibilities and processes.

Availability: Offices operate Tuesday through to Saturday 8 am – 3:30 pm. The organisation is prepared to be flexible with hours however looking at roughly 4hrs per day.

Lifestyle Support Volunteer

Position Description: Do you have creative or artistic flair that you could share with others? Could you read and chat to someone lonely? Are you reliable, keen and enthusiastic about creating purposeful days for older people in residential care? Volunteers are needed to assist the Lifestyle Staff in all aspects of daily activities and fun. The organisation will work around you and your interest and skills, e.g. Arts and crafts, knitting and crochet, gardening, simple cooking, exercises, quiz, reminiscing, group games, special interest groups, poetry, pet care.

Requirements: A caring attitude to others, a willingness to have fun, a National Police Check which can be arranged by the organisation.

Duration: Long Term

Training: Orientation to the organisation, Manual Handling and Safe Food Handling (as applicable).

Availability: 2-4 hours a day, Monday to Friday

Volunteer Gardner

Position Description: A person is needed with experience in gardening or someone who has a strong passion for gardening. You would need to be patient and able to assist those less able in undertaking planting and all aspects of gardening.

Requirements: Ability to work with others and be kind and compassionate, a good knowledge and passion for gardening.

Duration: Long Term

Training: Volunteer training as per organisation’s policy.

Availability: Any available time is appreciated.

Event Assistant

Position Description: The event is a fun night for guests with great entertainment. We need volunteers to help with set up and pack down and also for the following tasks:

  • Set-up – Four people to help setting up tables, bar and decorations.
  • Pack down Three people to help after the event to pack down all equipment and clean the hall
  • Front Door Reception Four people are required to check in our ticketed attendees
  • Ushers Three people are require do assist our guests to their tables.
  • Ticket Sellers Three people are required to sell bingo and raffle tickets throughout the evening
  • Bar staff Three people are required to serve alcohol at our bar (must have an RSA)

Requirements: No skills or experience are required except for the volunteers on the bar who must hold an RSA.

Duration: Event duration

Training: All volunteers will be supervised at the event by the Event Coordinator.

Availability: 4 hours on Friday 9 November 2018 for set up. Evening for other roles – Approximately 6 pm-10:30 pm.

Festival Volunteer

Position Description: Local festival requires some locally minded volunteering legends to lend a hand in three or four hours shifts between 6:00 am and 8:00 pm. No particular skills are required, and all ages are welcome with various tasks and duties available on the day. You will be a valued member of the team, will be fed, watered and generally looked after – AND you will have plenty of time to soak in the festival atmosphere and enjoy the Sunshine Coast’s hottest event of the year!

Requirements: No skills or previous experience necessary.

Duration: Event duration

Training: An induction will take place prior to the event.

Availability: Three and Four hour shifts are available throughout the day between 6:00 am and 8:00 pm on Saturday 17 November.

Gardener/Handyman

Position Description: Work under direction of the Administration Manager and Community Development worker to maintain the centre’s gardens and odd jobs.

Duties will include:

  • Water external plants
  • Mow lawns
  • Trim edges and remove grass clippings
  • Prune trees and shrubs as required
  • Remove leaves from open area/staff car park and hose when required
  • Maintain a tidy and organized storage shed
  • Maintaining good working order of centre tools and equipment
  • Minor odd jobs such as painting, high pressure cleaning, rubbish removal

Requirements: A Blue Card is not a requirement for this position however we are able to support the volunteer in applying for one if they choose to, there may be limited heavy lifting.

Duration: Long term

Availability: Minimum 4hrs a week on day of your choice (Monday – Friday)

General Outdoor Handyman

Position Description: The position requires no special training or qualifications but does require a willingness to perform a variety of tasks as the need arises. The tasks may include mowing, whipper-snipping, cleaning, general maintenance of equipment and machinery, small repairs, light gardening, and other basic handyman jobs. There is some flexibility with hours of work, dependent upon the jobs that need to be done.

Requirements: No qualifications or experience required. Mechanical knowledge and skills would be an advantage but not essential. A Driver’s Licence is not essential but would be an advantage.

Duration: Long term

Training: On-the-job training provided as required

Availability: Up to 15 hours a week – Monday to Friday – negotiable
