Volunteer Cooks and Kitchen Assistants

Position Description: Volunteers with a commercial cooking background needed in Maroochydore Respite Centre. The days required are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 6 am to 12.30 pm. Volunteers are required to cover leave for a period of about six weeks including a handover from about mid-March to end of May.

Requirements: Able to prepare meals in a commercial environment.

Duration: Short term

Availability: Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 6 am to 12.30 pm

Volunteer Biographer

Position Description: The Palliative Care Service offers patients the opportunity to compile their biography.  This can take the form of a general live review, or a collection of short stories.  The demand on the service is growing and further biographers are needed to meet this demand.  The role involves meeting palliative patients in their home, recording their stories, transcribing these recordings, and compiling the final document.  The average number of visits per biography is 6-8, visits are typically one hour.

Physical location of the job is across Sunshine Coast. The service does its best to allocate biographies to volunteers living in close proximity to the patient.  Also requires attendance to the Palliative Care Office in Nambour (until July 2018), and then Caloundra (July 2018 onwards).

Benefits volunteer will gain from this job: Privilege of being invited into palliative patients home and lives to help them capture and reflect upon their life lived.

Requirements:

  • Listening & communication skills
  • General computer literacy, word processing, internet, email
  • General technology literacy, use of voice recorders
  • Flexible, reliable, calm/patient, emotional wellbeing, respectful, ethical & moral
  • References required suitable for adults and seniors

Duration: Long term

Availability: Variable, as required depending on referrals. Note: There may be periods of no work, and periods where work is higher. Minimum over 12 month commitment.
